Why You Need A Paleo Cookbook!

In the early days of humankind, Mother Nature provided all that was vital to sustain our race. Man tracked and gathered for their nourishment and survived entirely on the all-natural ingredients the nature supplied for us. There was plenty of hardship in the age of the caveman, but what early people did not need to worry about was whether or not their food was slowly killing them. Today’s population suffers from a variety of illnesses and health problems, including obesity. Many experts suggest this is because our society is more sedentary than before, spending more time in front of PC monitors or TV’s and in work positions that require little movement. Our children spend too much time indoors and not enough outside in the fresh air, running and playing. While all of this is self-evident, what many people don’t realize is that the food they eat could be playing a major part in whether or not they are healthy.
When society switched from hunting and gathering to agriculture, the obvious benefits of this type of food production were apparent. Farmers could create more food for more human beings with less risk. They were no longer dependent on only what one could find in nature. Men took back control of their food. With time, agriculture was the main way of acquiring food and the demand for more farms and different kinds of produce affected the way farmers worked. To become more efficient, farmers had to tackle such issues as pests, weather, and disappointing crops. To combat these problems, farmers now incorporate chemicals that work as pesticides and fertilizers to boost their output. They pump cows full of hormones so they become fatter. The side effects of these practices include chemical ingestion by food consumers, genetically altered crops, and damage to fertile soil. There are no clear-cut studies that link the ingestion of these chemicals and hormones to modern day diseases, but eating these chemicals cannot be good for us.
Due to these changes in farming, people have gotten used to eating a variety of different types of foods. One does not have to live in the tropics to enjoy pineapple, for example. Food distributors simply have the supply shipped in. However, in order to keep food from spoiling en route – food producers must find ways to treat and preserve the commodities. Some of these preservatives, such as niacin, have been found to cause cancer in high doses. These methods of preservation keep the food from going bad but the process often removes some of the wholesome value of the food. Some evidence suggests that food preservatives may have associations with ADHD, asthma, stomach cancer and esophageal cancer. These types of treatments are hard for the body to digest and could be causing any number of health related issues.
Today’s food consumer tends to be picky as well. People typically select a few favored foods and don’t experiment. Each item of produce has different nutritional benefits so when people limit themselves they are missing out on nutrients they need to be healthy.
The Paleo Cookbook takes food consumption back to its early roots by putting together delicious recipes using only food that would have originally been available to us by the Earth.
