The Best Frozen Vegetable Burgers

By Olivia Cross

While there are a number of meat substitutes, some are better than others. For some, creating these products at home can be both easy, efficient and cost saving. While for others, the thought of attempting to make any type of frozen food from scratch, especially frozen vegetable burgers is out of the question.

What many people fail to realize is that veggie burgers can be made a number of different ways. Take for example restaurants which offer mushroom swiss, bacon and cheese, and other similar styles. All can be made with a variety of different frozen patties. Some hold up to additives and toppings better than others. One of the best for this type of burger is that of the Boca Grillers.

Those wanting a more simple tasting patty based in vegetables might want to try Garden Burger. While Boca is often the one that holds up best with toppings, nothings says one can not add different toppings and ingredients to a variety of styles. Depending on cooking experience, some veggie foods can be made as well, if not better than traditional meat, poultry, fish or wild game counterparts.

One of the best and most common recipes among veggie burger lovers is that of making styles close to those found in restaurants that only serve beef. For example, different restaurants generally offer different styles, mushroom swiss, grilled onion, pepper steak and the like. As such, it can be easy to obtain and add these ingredients to any brand of veggie burger.

There are also individuals who only eat these type foods on a part time basis. Whether due to dietary restrictions or monetary issues, this can often be a good way to assure one is getting the grains and vegetables necessary for a good diet. As many of these brands also offer crumble style veggie grains, sloppy joes, chili cheese dogs and other such foods can also be made with this type meat substitute.

Veggie hot dogs are often on the diet of those on special diets. While it can be easy to make patties and other vegetarian entrees from scratch, veggie dogs are not as easy. The good news is that there are two brands which taste as close to traditional dogs as possible. These are SmartDogs and TofuPups, both of which can now be found in most grocery stores which offer meat substitutes.

While meat eaters may be drawn more to the Boca brand, some vegans and vegetarians think the taste is too close to beef. GardenBurger, Amys and Trader Joe's can often provide a better option when it comes to vegetable based burgers. Though, it should be noted that many of these brands tend to fall apart when cooked in a microwave, baked or fried. After which, adding additional ingredients can often be difficult, though when used for sloppy joes and other similar foods can also provide an excellent substitute for meat based burgers.

The good news about vegan and vegetarian food is that entrees are becoming more commonplace, not only in grocery stores but in schools and restaurants. As a result, individuals who often have to eat salad as a main course may now have alternative options when it comes to ordering a faux meat dish to enjoy along with other sides on the menu.
