A Look At Lobster Delivery

By Thomas Smith

Lobsters are one of items that are highly perishable. When transporting them for consumption away from the fishing point, one ought to be very cautious. For proper lobster delivery they should transported while alive. To achieve this condition, they need to be packaged well and transported under well-adjusted conditions. The thing of concern during shipping is to ensure that they remain cool and moisture while being transported.

The main reason why it should remain cool is because it uses less oxygen hence can move longer distances. High temperatures results in increase in the amount of oxygen consumed. This means that the chances of suffocation are high due to its fast rate of oxygen. Most of them die during transportation due to lack of oxygen.

For gills to perform the role of gaseous exchange, they need to remain moist most of the time. This is the major reason why they need to be placed in a moist environment. If well preserve they can live out of seawater for about four to five days. A lot of carbon dioxide is generally produced by dry ice and therefore it is not advisable to keep it close to dry ice. If kept in fresh water, it swells up a condition that could result in bursting.

Shipping it under sea water is also not recommendable because it uses all the oxygen within a short period of time. However, this can be made successful by connecting the tank full of seawater to equipment that helps in aeration. The use of refrigerated trucks is actually the best method of transporting them while alive, because under this condition, moisture and the temperature are properly kept under check.

Before shipping them, make them cool so as to avoid abrupt change in temperature from warm to a cold, a situation that could make them stressed up. Although they are good in putting up with temperature changes, they are highly affected negatively by sudden temperature changes.

If there is need of letting them feed, do it about one week before transportation. If this is not followed and are given food immediately before transportation, they are likely to consume a lot of oxygen. They may vomit too. Too much oxygen consumption my increases demand for oxygen which may not be available under normal conditions.

It is not advisable to transport them in air tight conditions because the carbon dioxide gas that is being expelled remains in the environment leaving a tiny place for oxygen. To avoid this menace, it is important to aerate the place where they are packed to make it more efficient. It is not advisable to transport them while wounded because their shells can easily break.

There are many companies that engage in lobster transportation. This shows that it is very important to use efficient method to select the best company to make the process successful. To get one you, may search online or even ask friends or relatives who have ever received such services. Choose one, which is highly modernized and whose prices are friendly.
