Shroom Burgers Take Sandwiches To Another Level

By Debra King

It seems there is a new hamburger restaurant popping up in major cities every week. While many of these places have wonderful offerings and great reviews by customers and food experts, few have standout recipes that are hard to resist. One of the latest creations to come out in recent are shroom burgers.

While hamburgers made with beef, chicken, or turkey are tasty when topped with a few cooked mushrooms, it is not the same thing. The Portobello, also known as the vegetarian steak, has enough texture and flavor to stand apart with respect to its meaty cousins. This burger recipe combines many savory, spicy, and tangy flavors that are not always easy to duplicate.

Many of the new vegetarian dishes have tastes that are simply out of this world. Unlike meals from the past, which were bland, gritty, or seldom looked like real food, the innovative recipes of today are full of color and every bite is vibrant. Meatless burgers are no different, which is why they are growing in demand.

This sandwich has two ingredients that make it hard to put down after one bite. A portobello cap deep fried in panko crumb batter and filled with cheese is like a party inside the mouth. Inside this burger is also garlic, onions, and spices that place this in its own category.

The secret sauce gives it that extra kick, as this recipe is far more evolved than what some people grew up with. This tangy dill experience that has a slight kick not found in any place with a clown mascot. Anyone making this at home can experiment with condiments but the filling packs plenty of flavor by itself.

This is a nice treat for anyone who wants a change from traditional beef or poultry burgers. The portobello is subtle enough to complement the sharpness of the cheddar but hearty enough to possibly save for another meal when the full trimmings are added. Even carnivores who have not made the full conversion say the shroom has a special place in the world of hamburgers.

Making these at home can be a lot of fun, as there are a few recipes that can be found online. Once a person gets the hang of making the ingredients, they may want to surprise guests with a slider version. The smaller white or brown mushrooms are ideal for frying and adding the creamy cheese filling. One idea would be to use Hawaiian sweet rolls instead of condiments. Guests may feel as if they are having a gourmet treat but imagine their surprise when they learn it is a new kind of burger.

There are also been other type of vegetarian junk food to hit the masses in recent. Dishes made with cauliflower rice are probably the most shocking, as this has spawned off into a pizza crust, and other dishes that normally call for the starchy version. Many of these offer more nutritional benefits and use the same spices. Some even say there is little difference in the taste and texture, so they find themselves gradually converting. A little extra flavor can go a long way.
