Garlic Hot Sauce Adds A Kick To Appetizers

By Eric Murphy

When it comes to making snack foods, it is easy to fall into a rut. Playing it safe is nice but adding spice brings another taste experience. However, there are some misconceptions about certain foods that label themselves as hot, as it may be spicier. A good example of this is garlic hot sauce, which brings an additional layer of taste to food.

Hearing words like heat, hot, or spice sometimes bring a slight fear to those who envision themselves breathing fire after one bite. In many cases, this is not true. Although there are a few restaurants that require patrons to sign a waiver before eating any food that is considered to be insanely hot to the tongue.

Some unusual ideas include fried spaghetti balls, teriyaki turkey meatballs, and vegetarian mini tacos. A lot of these are easy to make but incorporate different cultures to make something that is unique. Unlike some finger foods of the past, some of these are low in calories but offer a lot more flavor. Sometimes cooks can just make miniature versions of their favorite recipes and it will become a hit with guests.

Making a nutritious sauce is simple. Low sodium soy sauce or liquid amino make a nice base for teriyaki. Instead of using corn syrup, try raw honey or pure maple syrup. Hot sauce of any kind may be added for that extra kick, along with garnishments like chopped green onions or toasted sesame seeds.

If making appetizers for a group of people, it may be fun to add this to popular recipes like seven layer dip, nachos, or as part of buffalo wing sauce. This mixes in well with refried beans, pico de gallo, and guacamole. It can also add an extra pop to sweet barbecue sauce or Latin inspired casseroles.

New changes in finger foods are Hawaiian style sweet rolls, Naan style bread with a chutney dipping sauce, and sliders in any variety. Those who are following special diet plans find they can cut the salt and sugar content by using hot sauce or balsamic vinegar and agave nectar syrup. One thing that is not missing from these modern twists is a predictable taste.

Having these sauces around are great for those who are cutting calories or sticking to a bland diet. Many of these are low in sodium and have little sugar but pack a lot of flavors that can be added to grilled vegetables, roasted skinless chicken, and many savory side dishes. It can also be added to Greek yogurt as a dressing for salads and cold pasta dishes. These sauces also make a nice marinade that is not too salty or sweet.

Anyone who likes hot sauce will find that most garlic flavors stand apart from most. For those who have been curious about using sauces should start with garlic or other flavors that are not too intense with heat. This sauce changes the taste of regular snacks like popcorn, french fries, and rice so much that there is little need for extra ingredients. All it takes is the willingness to step out of a food comfort zone and see what garlic lovers are talking about.
